NovoRapid FlexPen is a fast-acting insulin analog used for the management of diabetes mellitus (Type 1 & Type 2). It helps lower high blood sugar levels quickly after meals, reducing the risk of complications associated with diabetes. The prefilled FlexPen is designed for convenience, allowing for accurate, easy, and painless insulin administration.
Key Features & Benefits:
✔ Rapid Onset: Starts working within 10-20 minutes after injection.
✔ Short Duration: Effective for 3-5 hours, reducing post-meal blood sugar spikes.
✔ Pre-Filled & Ready to Use: No need for manual insulin preparation.
✔ Accurate Dosing: Adjustable in 1-unit increments for precise blood sugar control.
✔ Portable & Convenient: Compact design for easy carrying and administration anywhere.
Indications:
- Type 1 Diabetes (Insulin-dependent diabetes)
- Type 2 Diabetes (When oral medications are insufficient)
- Gestational Diabetes (Under medical supervision)
How It Works:
NovoRapid FlexPen contains Insulin Aspart, a rapid-acting insulin analog that mimics the body’s natural insulin response after meals. It facilitates glucose absorption into the muscles and fat cells, while reducing glucose production in the liver, leading to better blood sugar management.
Dosage & Administration:
- Administer subcutaneously (under the skin) in the abdomen, thigh, upper arm, or buttocks.
- Inject immediately before meals or within 15 minutes after eating.
- Rotate injection sites to avoid lipodystrophy (fat tissue changes).
- Dosage should be adjusted based on blood glucose levels, diet, and physical activity.
Precautions & Warnings:
- Do not use if experiencing low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
- Monitor blood sugar levels regularly to prevent hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia.
- Use caution in renal and hepatic impairment.
- Do not mix with long-acting or intermediate-acting insulin in the same syringe.
Possible Side Effects:
- Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) – shakiness, sweating, dizziness.
- Injection site reactions – redness, swelling, itching.
- Weight gain (common with insulin therapy).
- Rare allergic reactions – rash, difficulty breathing.
